EiE Seminars 2014-15
Marty and Carolyn provide the entire homeschool community the opportunity to attend monthly evening seminars designed to enhance the
positive homeschool experience for your family. Each year we try to weave a theme and this year it is to encourage our attendees to better
understand the philosophy of Dr. Raymond Moore, the Jefferson Education Model, the teachings John Gatto and John Holt as well as the
importance of Learning Styles.
For the 2014-15 school year we will be presenting our seminars on Thursday evenings from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Our fee to attend is a
free will donation with a suggested amount of $10.00 per person or $15.00 per family. There will be a container for the donations to be
deposited. We do not track who donates since we would rather you attend the seminar than forgo it for financial considerations.

of a Different Feather”

TAUGHT BY: Sharon Chung
ABOUT THE TEACHER: I have been signing for almost 15 years now. I started ASL classes my freshman year of

COURSE DESCRIPTION: “Bird of a Different Feather” is a famous ASL literature piece created and performed by
Ben Bahan. Bahan's fable, Bird of a Different Feather, is about the different-looking bird within a family of eagles.
Instead of accepting the bird's differences, the eagle family tries to apply a pathological approach to raising it. This is
an odyssey familiar to many Deaf people.
This course will comprise of 9 chapters (on the teachers DVD) about 35 minutes total split up over two weeks, three
days a week, a hour and a half each day. Each chapter will consist of the 3-4 minute video watched in class (story is
in ASL but has English voice over), comprehension questions (completed as a class), four literary questions, 1-2
page reading handout and class discussion. The literary questions and reading will be done in class as time allows
and completed as homework.
The focus of this class is to learn and discuss Deaf Culture.

Trust Also In Him
The True Story of a Life Woven by God
by Emily Potter
Elisabeth was fifteen when World War II shattered the quiet routine of her farming village and left her in charge of her family
in a foreign country at war. Through suffering, tragedy, and miraculous provision, God’s hand wove the threads of Elisabeth’
s life into a beautiful tapestry of His love. Of historical interest as it documents the little-known plight of millions of ethnic
Germans displaced by the war, “Trust also in Him” is above all a testimony to the Master Weaver, who keeps His promises in
times of hardship and of joy.
